The Estuary Natural Reserve is a wetland with a high heritage value. It is an important stopover for birds because of its position on the main migratory routes along the Atlantic coast.

The Estuary Natural Reserve covers 4,000 ha. It includes a mosaic of terrestrial and marine habitats: estuarine environments, reed beds, wet meadows, mudflats... 55% of the natural areas managed by HAROPA - Port of Rouen, i.e. approximately 1,500 ha, are located in the Seine Estuary Natural Reserve.

The management plan is defined in consultation with all stakeholders. The 4th management plan for the Natural Reserve was approved on 27 June 2018 for a period of 10 years, including a mid-term review. It is in line with the 3rd management plan, while proposing significant changes in terms of studies, responding to requests from scientific advisers (adaptation to climate change, taking into account external influences, taking into account the marine environment, studies on hydraulic connections and their impacts on ecosystems and human activities, combating invasive alien species, etc)

HAROPA - Port of Rouen manages its land in collaboration with the manager of the Natural Reserve, the Maison de l'Estuaire.

The Port is in particular in charge of the agreements with the various users (hunters, reed cutters, farmers). It integrates environmental requirements in accordance with the management plan.
In addition, the Port of Rouen participates financially, within the framework of a partnership agreement with the Maison de l'Estuaire, in the actions of the reserve's management plan.
