While maritime transport has the advantage of having a lower environmental impact than land transport, the Port of Rouen has the ambition to go even further in its environmental policy.
Combating global warming, protecting and developing natural environments, and contributing without negative impact to urban and economic dynamics are among its objectives.
The Port of Rouen is fully committed to sustainable development in the region. According to a long-term perspective and so that economic growth can benefit future generations, The Port of Rouen has initiated a global approach to ensure the coherence of all its actions for the enhancement of natural and human resources.
The Port of Rouen has thus adopted an environmental strategy divided into three main areas:
- Promoting the energy transition
The Port of Rouen is working to promote sustainable modes of transport and mobility, develop renewable energies and promote industrial ecology and the circular economy on its territory.
- Manage, preserve, restore and enhance natural areas
Within the framework of the Natural Areas Management Plan (NAMP), numerous actions for the maintenance of biodiversity and the management and ecological restoration of natural areas are carried out on the port territory.
- Reconciling economic development and respect for the environment
For several years now, the Port of Rouen has been integrating the environment at all stages of development projects, is part of the daily control of the impact of its port activities and is developing good environmental practices on its territory for better acceptability of its projects.
