Creation of wet meadows in the Marais Vernier

Since 2013, a partnership has existed between HAROPA - Port of Rouen and the CCI Seine Estuaire to carry out compensatory measures requested after the work to improve access to the Pont de Tancarville, on a former agricultural plot located in the Marais Vernier, downstream of Pont de Tancarville on the left bank.

In 2017, HAROPA - Port of Rouen created a wet meadow over an area of about 9 ha and a wooded area comprising nearly 4,000 trees, mainly birches, willows and black poplars.

In order to restore the wetness of the meadow, about 30 cm of the land was excavated. The project was accompanied by the simple redevelopment of an old filandre without reconnecting to the Seine. The principle of redevelopment adopted was to create several depressions of different sizes and depths in the route of the former filander to obtain varied watering conditions and lead to the development of diversified habitats, improving the site's ecological functions.
